My Spring Festival
The sound of the drums filled the air as I walked down the street, surrounded by the color red. Lanterns(灯笼), like flowers, moved in the cold air, shining a beautiful light on the busy crowd. It was Spring Festival, the most exciting time in China, and everywhere was filled with happy celebrations.
My family's apartment, which is usually quiet, was changed. The smell of cooking dumplings filled the air, mingling with the talking and laughing of relatives. We laughed as we tried to make sticky rice cakes, a special treat that represents family togetherness. We gave each other red envelopes, a symbol of good luck, and the young ones ran around, laughing loudly.
But in all the happiness, there was also a quiet respect. Pictures of our ancestors were on the walls, reminding us of those who came before us. We gathered around them, lighting incense (香)and telling stories, connecting across different generations. It was a time to honor the past and look to the future, an important part of the festival.
The best part was on New Year's Eve. When the clock struck midnight, the sky was full of colorful fireworks, making the night beautiful. The loud noises were more than just for fun; they also represented letting go of bad things and bringing in hope and new beginnings.
The days after were spent visiting relatives, hugging and having big meals with each one. We played traditional games, which may seem simple but have a lot of history and meaning. At night, we watched performances on TV and enjoyed the joy of our whole country celebrating together.
As the festival came to an end, I felt a bit sad. The red lanterns went out, the streets got quieter, and the happy feeling slowly went away. But inside of me, the love of family, the sound of laughter, and the feeling of togetherness stayed. It was a reminder of how important family is, how strong tradition is, and how hope can carry us into the new year.
