Mark Twain
①Mark Twain, whose real name was Samuel Clemens, was more than just a writer. He was very clever and funny, and he liked to talk about society in his writing. He was born in 1835 and grew up near the Mississippi River. He heard a lot of interesting stories and met many interesting people, which inspired him to write great books.
②Twain's writing was funny and smart. He used jokes and humor to make fun of things he thought were wrong, like the way society treated different classes of people and the silly things politicians did. His most famous books, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, are still popular today. They address issues such as having fun and growing up.
③Huckleberry Finn, a young boy who faced problems with racism (种族主义)and making good choices, became a symbol of being your own person and speaking up for those who are left out. Tom Sawyer, with his funny jokes and big imagination, showed what it is like to be a curious and happy kid. In his books, Twain also talked about friendship, loyalty and finding your way in a world that can be confusing.
④But Twain did not just tell stories; he also talked about society. He wrote essays and travel stories about all kinds of things, like how money was not fairly shared during the Gilded Age and how strange European customs seemed to him. He was very critical of war, racism, and religious rules, and he used his humor to show when people were being two-faced.
⑤Even now, more than 100 years after he died, Mark Twain's words are still important. His humor is still fun, his characters are still interesting, and his opinions about society are still worth thinking about. He reminds us that laughing is important, that we should always question what people in charge are doing, and that good stories can come from everyday life. So, read a Twain book, laugh at his jokes, and let his writing take you to a world where fun and smarts are always together.
